Early Intervention Programme in Singapore

Recognise These Signs Early and Improve your Child's Quality of Life!

Every Child is Born with a Unique Skill Set!

Although each child develops at their own pace and the range of normal development is quite wide, it is helpful to be aware of red flags for potential developmental delays in children. For some parents in Singapore, you may realise that your child is not developing along with their peers or has delays compared to their siblings. These delays are significant lags in one or more areas of emotional, mental or physical growth. If your child is experiencing a delay, early intervention is the best way to help them make progress or even catch up.

Sometimes, a delay occurs in many or all of these areas. When that happens, it is called “global” developmental delay. Among all, language and speech delays are the most common type of developmental delay. Speech refers to verbal expression, including the way words are formed. Language is a broader system of expressing and receiving information, such as being able to understand gestures.

How will delayed treatment widen the gap between the child and their peers?

With early intervention, a child will receive therapy and educational support services that are catered to his or her learning needs. This will be valuable for the child. Through early intervention programmes in Singapore, one can provide therapy for the areas of challenge and improve developmental outcomes, and the child will have a better chance of entering mainstream schools in the formal education system.

With a delay in intervention, the child will lose valuable time within the first 6 years of their life, where good quality intervention can have a lifelong positive impact on their progress through life. The gaps between the child and their peers can also widen as the peers continue to develop at a pace that is beyond the child’s ability to catch up.

  • Movement – known as motor skills

  • Social and emotional skills

  • Thinking – known as cognitive skills

  • Vision or perceptual skill

There are many different types of developmental delays in infants and young children. They include challenges with:

Our Holistic Approach

Caregivers and parents play a crucial role in our Early Intervention Programme (EIP) as they spend the most time with the child. In order to ensure that the child applies what he/she learns in our centre to the home and school environment in Singapore, we aim to equip caregivers with the necessary skills and knowledge to confidently guide their child in doing so.

We will work with caregivers on areas such as:

As the child grows and develops, parents have to upgrade their parenting and facilitating skills so that they can keep being in touch with their child’s needs. A close partnership with parents is one of the key factors that lead to successful positive outcomes for the child.

  1. Successful communication skills

  2. Facilitating your child’s emotional regulation

  3. Handling challenging behaviours

  4. Learning about building positive relationships with your child

  5. Reinforcing learning on literacy and numeracy skills

What does this mean for your child?

The long-term outcome of the MindChamps Allied Care Early Intervention Programme (EIP) is readiness for school, be it at a mainstream or Special Education school in Singapore. We will work towards integrating your child into mainstream preschool settings upon their progress and improvement where possible.

At our centre, your child will be cared for by a special needs teacher and a teacher’s assistant in a private environment. You may also choose to tap on our multidisciplinary team of Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, and Child Psychologists to work with your child according to their needs. This is subject to an additional fee.

You will receive an Individual Education Plan for your child within 6 weeks of enrolment.

This Individual Education Plan allows the team to work towards achieving the goals set for your child. Each child has their own Individual Education Plan, where goals are set based on the child’s developmental needs as assessed by professionals and in consultation with caregivers. This Individual Education Plan is reviewed together with caregivers every 6 months.

MindChamps Allied Care EIP vs. Other Early Intervention Programmes

Among many choices for Early Intervention Programme for Infants and Children (EIPIC) in the market, our EIP stands out for its strong framework tapping on AEPS (Assessment, Evaluation, and Programming System for Infants and Children), a comprehensive, proven, reliable and highly regarded system that has been helping children for decades.

More than an assessment or a curriculum, the AEPS’s components yield educationally relevant, meaningful and functional information that is used to formulate developmentally appropriate goals and objectives for children. These goals and objectives are also closely addressed in the curriculum so as to achieve optimal progress for the children.

Our Early Intervention Programme’s core intervention approach utilises AEPS, a curriculum and criterion-based system which serves to:

  • Identify children’s strengths and emerging skills across developmental areas

  • Identify functional goals and objectives for Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or other individualised plans

  • Assist in planning and guiding interventions

  • Monitor children’s progress over time

How can the Individual Education Plan help your Child?

An Individual Education Plan (IEP) that encompasses relevant and realistic goals offers customised learning solutions for children with varied learning needs. This means that instead of trying to fit your child into generic learning plans that he/she may not benefit from, using an IEP will ensure that your child is taught in ways that result in the best outcomes. Your child will get to learn academic and other key developmental skills in a safe and fun therapeutic context customised to suit their individual strengths and abilities.

  • Write Individual Education Plan goals and objectives that are meaningful and realistic

  • Create embedded learning opportunities to prioritise IEP goals and objectives

  • Develop links between assessment, goal development and an activity-based approach to intervention

  • Effectively monitor children’s progress towards IEP goals and objectives embedded throughout daily activities

AEPS will be used by teachers and therapists to:

Outings and Celebrations

Bringing learning experiences out of the classroom and into nature or the community is an enriching and purposeful experience for children to engage in. Outings and celebrations are also a regular part of school life, and we want to ensure that the children in our EIP can enjoy these experiences in a safe and nurturing environment.

Through such experiences, children may also learn independent living skills such as navigating shops and parks safely, obeying safety rules and buying simple meals for themselves in preparation for primary school.
