Early Intervention Teacher
Durga brings 13 years of experience in educating children with special needs to her role. Additionally, she has spent six years in a leadership position overseeing teacher development and supervision. Durga's expertise extends to working with young children in the Early Intervention sector for five years. Before that, she spent eight years working with children with special needs, specifically Autism and Down Syndrome, ranging from ages 7 to 22. Her expertise includes implementing the TEACCH program, which offers structure and organization for individuals with autism. Additionally, she has experience with Tasks Galore, a comprehensive system addressing various skills such as fine motor, matching and sorting, phonemic awareness, mathematics, and reasoning, within classroom settings.
Durga has experience in conducting ABA therapy, Discrete Trial Training (DTT) and Functional Behavioral Analysis (FBA), acquired from previous roles. With a Diploma in Learning Disorders and Psychology, as well as a Cambridge Teaching and Learning Certificate, she is proficient in conducting enrolment assessments, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and devising Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) based on these observations. Additionally, she has participated in workshops covering topics such as managing meltdowns, implementing the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), and addressing sensory issues in the classroom. Durga is skilled in applying effective strategies and communication methods, including PECS and augmentative communication devices/software like Go Talk and Prologuo2Go, particularly beneficial for nonverbal children.
