Senior Speech Therapist

Xiao Hui is a speech-language therapist who specialises in early and school-age language, speech difficulties, dysphagia (swallowing problems), and picky eating. She graduated from the BSc Speech Sciences (Honours) programme at University College London. She spent her first 6.5 years working at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Singapore, with opportunities to work in both inpatient (multidisciplinary neuro-rehabilitation) and outpatient settings.

Xiao Hui then transitioned out of the hospital to work in an Early Intervention setting, to gain experience providing intervention in the child’s natural environment (such as schools) and explore a higher therapy frequency (weekly instead of monthly). As part of the enhanced Pilot for Private Intervention Providers (PPIP) programme, she assessed and provided intervention for children under 7 years old with autism, global developmental delay, childhood apraxia of speech, etc. This also presented opportunities for her to work directly with teachers and early interventionists in preschools.

Xiao Hui is now in private practice, where she is able to work closely with her clients and their families. She strongly believes that a caregiver’s involvement, whether as a parent or otherwise, is key to a child reaching their utmost potential. She advocates strongly for empowering caregivers with the knowledge and skills to grow their child’s communication and feeding potential. Supporting a child’s communication is close to her heart because she believes it is the key to starting and building their relationships with their caregivers and loved ones.

As a mother of 2 young children, Xiao Hui also highly values her feeding work as a clinician because she is fully aware of the anxieties families face and the impact of mealtime struggles on the parent-child relationship. Journeying with the families through their mealtime struggles and emerging towards peaceful and happy mealtimes is highly rewarding and valuable for her as a clinician.
